When and how do I register for class?
We encourage registering early! Classes must meet a minimum number of enrollments to be held, and some classes also fill quickly.

and by phone at 612-243-3000.
If a class is already full, please join the waitlist for possible openings or added sections. We make decisions to hold each class based on enrollment approximately one week prior to the class start date.
Can I pay at the door?
No registration or payment is accepted at the door unless specified in the course description. Factors include space and safety considerations, supplies, staff ratio, and others.
How do I know if I successfully registered for a class?
A confirmation email is sent immediately If you included an email address in your account. If you do not have or did not submit an email address, a confirmation will not be sent; assume you are in class. You may call or email the office with questions, as well.
What if my class is full?
If you are interested in a course that is full, please join the waitlist! There is no cost or commitment. We monitor class sizes and waitlists regularly and contact the waiting list when participants cancel or if we are able to accommodate more students.
Do I need to be a richfieldschools School District resident to enroll?
All our community education classes are open to anyone from anywhere within the age limits, except when otherwise noted in the course or program description. The minimum age for attending adult classes is 16 years. Youth and early learning courses will have age ranges indicated in the course listings.
What if I can’t come to class? Can I get a refund?
Customer initiated cancellations received within 5 or more business days prior to the start of the class will qualify for a refund minus a non-refundable $10 processing fee. Cancellations made less than 5 business days prior to the start date of the activity/class will not be eligible for a refund.
Do I need to bring supplies to class?
Many classes include all supplies. If your class requires you to bring something, the supply list is posted on our website or in the course description. You may also contact our office for inquiries on supply needs. We recommend you wait to purchase supplies until 5 business days prior to the start of this class to ensure the class will be held.
Where can I find details about my class?
The online course listing will show the description, time, location and instructor. Use the search field at richfieldschools.arux.app to find your course listing. If you have an email address in your account, you will receive a confirmation email with class details at the time of registration and a reminder 2 days before the class starts.
Why did my class get cancelled?
Each class has a minimum number of enrollments required in order to cover the costs of offering the class. Decisions are made approximately one week prior to the class start date. You will be contacted and complete refunds will be given when there is insufficient registration to hold the class. We encourage early registration to avoid class cancellation.
Weather Concerns?
Decisions for cancellations due to weather generally follow richfieldschools Public Schools decisions and will be posted on www.richfieldschoolsschools.org or on facebook @RPSCommunityEd and @RPS280.
Do you have information or staff assistance available in alternate languages?
Our outreach staff are happy to assist in Spanish, English or Somali. For other languages, we have interpretive services to assist in customer service. Some of our adult classes are offered bilingually in English & Spanish. This will be indicated in the course description.
Are accommodations available for participants with disabilities?
If you are attending an adult class and need a sign language interpreter, note taker or other accommodations to participate in Community Education classes, call Learning Exchange at 952-681-6121 or email jclarke@isd271.org. For youth and other classes, call 612-243-3000. Advance notice of 10 days is requested.
Are there any financial assistance or scholarship options available?
Members of UCare eligible plans can receive $15 off their Community Education class up to three times a year. The UCare ID number must be provided when registering as well as a signed consent form to submit the claim.
Qualification for free or reduced educational benefits does affect the amount due for youth community education classes. However, the richfieldschools R.E.A.D.Y. Scholarship program is available.
Are gift certificates available for community education courses?
Yes! Give the gift of experience! Gift certificates are available for any of our courses in any amount you choose. Search ‘Gift Certificate’ on our website for purchase. Otherwise, stop by our office or call 612-243-3000 for assistance. Once purchased, your gift certificate will be sent by mail within seven business days. If you need to receive it sooner, please contact the Community Education office.
How will my child get from their regular school classroom to their after school programming?
Send a reminder note to your child’s teacher indicated which days your child will be attending after school classes. Teachers will dismiss students to report directly to the designated after school classroom. Community Education staff or instructors take attendance as students arrive. Students should be picked up at the classroom immediately after the class ends. If the class is at a different school location, parents/guardians are responsible for making arrangements.

How is it decided what classes are offered?
Teaching licenses are not required! Adults with demonstrated skills, training or experience in topics of interest to the community can propose a curriculum and provide a class. How do I make a request or give more feedback?
We are always seeking community input and involvement. If you would like to see a topic covered in a course, please let us know by email, phone or in person. Written feedback forms are also collected at the conclusion of each class.
How can I get more involved?
Volunteers are needed for events or activities as well as occasional office or program projects. Community members are also needed to serve on the richfieldschools Community Education Advisory Council! You may also call 612-243-3000 or email communityeducation@rpsmn.org for more information.
Is Fun Club part of Community Education?
Fun Club is a private, non-profit program which provides school age child care in the richfieldschools school district. Youth attending Community Education activities may also attend Fun Club for extended hours, with advance registration and payment.
Is Beacons part of Community Education?
The Beacons program is a partnership between the richfieldschools School District, the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club. Youth attending Community Education activities may also attend the Beacons program before and/or after their class or activity with registration in advance.
How do I register for PICA Head Start?
The Central Education Center rents space to the PICA Head Start program. However, their registration and administration is still done through the PICA Head Start program. For more information, visit picaheadstart.org or call 612-871-7422.
