Safety Training for Swim Coaches

This course helps fulfill the Coaches Safety Education requirement for USA Swimming and Y USA, with certification valid for two years. Participants must first complete the online Safety Training for Swim Team Coaches course through the American Red Cross, which will be sent prior to the class date, followed by an in-water skills verification session at the Richfield Middle School pool.

During the in-water session, coaches will practice rescues, assists, and responding to injured swimmers both in and out of the water. This course is not intended to train participants to become lifeguards.

Optional CPR Training: Participants may add CPR training to their registration for an additional fee. This training fulfills the CRP certification requirement for USA Swimming Coach Safety and is available as an optional component of the course.

Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 15 years old, comfortable in chest-deep water, and have completed the required online American Red Cross training prior to the in-water session.

Length: Approximately 1–3 hours; course time may vary and may include breaks. Additional time is required for participants who choose the optional CPR training.
